So I purchased this for the Rift S to be able to use it with my laptop that only has a USB-C or HDMI connection. I tried this device and it seems that the connection is seen for the USB but not the Display port conversion to be able to use the Rift S. I have no other use for this but that one conversion so I hope I can find another use for this unless I can return it, otherwise I just wasted my money on something I will never use.

This is what you need to connect from an hdmi output on your device to a display port input on your display. It works just as described.

This adapter is perfect for linking a DP monitor to an HDMI PC output. I recently bought a 4K gaming monitor with two HDMI and one DP input. I knew that because one of my PCs didn't have a 4K graphics card, but rather a QHD one, I could use the DP input if I could just connect that PC to the monitor. I discovered the "Cable Matters HDMI to Display Port Adapter" after some research. It was simple to connect, and now I have a free HDMI input for a true 4K device. I'm not using the adapter passively, but rather with the USB power cord. As a result, I can't say whether it would work without the USB power cord. (I didn't even try it because I wanted to make sure I had the best signal.) The image looks great, and I'm getting the most out of my QHD graphics card. I would recommend it to others with a similar need.

I have a special setup that required that I convert HDMI to DisplayPort. I work from home and have a KVM that used DisplayPort for video. My PC is DP, but my work laptop was HDMI. I bought this adapter so that I could use the same monitor (Samsung CHG90 49" curved), keyboard, and mouse for both my personal PC and work laptop.

The issue I ran into is that when I would switch the KVM from PC to laptop that sometimes the color would be off. It seemed to be an issue with saturation and contrast that would make it difficult to see anything on the screen from the laptop. I had to switch back to the PC and laptop to get it to clear.

At first I thought it was an issue with the laptop until my employer had me swap out the laptop. That did not fix the issue.

I then thought it had to do with the KVM. I now work for a new company and they gave me a new laptop with a docking station that has a DisplayPort connection. I removed this HDMI to DP adapter and now I can switch between PC and laptop without any issues.

I had this for more than 2 years before discovering that it was this adapter that was the issue and why this review is late.

This somewhat worked for what I needed for it to do, but it does not seem to be compatible when using it with a KVM.

I bought two of these adapters. It works great for me using a KVM switch. My monitor and KVM are both display port. I have a PC with HDMI output, a laptop with HDMI output using a docking station, and a Mac with display port output. All go through the KVM. The PC and laptop output each go through this adapter then to the KVM. My monitor is 2K. My PC is 1080p and laptop is 2K -- no issues switching between resolutions.

Worked fine for me to connect an HDMI to a DIsplayPort monitor that didn't have an HDMI port.

***Note that this device requires a USB port with *power*, not just a data port.***

Some USB ports won't provide enough to make this adapter work, even though the light is lit up. This baffled me for a bit as I had it plugged into a USB port that was meant only for a data connection. Moving the USB connector to an actual power adapter (a simple USB charger) solved the problem and everything started working properly.

IMPORTANT: If you don't supply enough power to the adapter it either won't work at all, OR it'll work, but with a reduced max resolution on the target monitor. For example, my 1920x1280 monitor would only appear in the display configuration settings as a 1600 x 900 monitor. (That was a head-scratcher!)

All in all it does what it says and, at about $30 it's also fairly affordable. I don't know how long it will last but running on a surge-protected system should keep it safe from spikes and transients.

Use this adapter if you need to connect an HDMI COMPUTER to a DisplayPort MONITOR (and not the other way around.) This is an active device, which means it needs power. It comes with a short cable with an HDMI male connector, a female DP connector, and an USB-A cable. The USB is used to power the device, but it appears the device also drains current from the HDMI output of the video card. I connected both, just in case.

Why 3-stars? The device works well most of the time, but once in a while, will start not sending signal to the monitor. In these cases, I need to fully unplug the device and re-plug. Sometimes, the OS on the computer thinks the monitor "went away" for some reason (since there's no signal) and requires a reboot. This is a bit annoying, really, but may affect more those people who (like me) never turn off their main computer.

This was used to connect a nice old Samsung SyncMaster S27A850D 27" 1440p monitor to a new computer with integrated graphics. The old monitor had display port and DVI but no HDMI. The new computer motherboard had only HDMI.

I first tried an HDMI to DVI adapter. Unfortunately, they all seem to be limited to 1080p. My wife was not happy because she likes running her games at 1440p.

The solution was this adapter. I also had to buy a 6' display port cable.

I first made sure the bios was set to start with integrated graphics. Then I shut the computer down. I plugged the adapter's HDMI plug and USB power plug into the computer. I ran the display port cable to the computer. I started the computer, and voila, everything worked.

Graphics quality is excellent, just as nice as with a discrete video card. 1440p is crystal clear.

Also, this adapter is small, lightweight and not bulky. It easily fits behind the computer.

It's a little expensive, but much cheaper than buying a new monitor.
